Mao Zhu Bamboo Charcoal – Phyllostachys edulis

Mau Zhu is a rapidly growing, sustainable bamboo that matures to up to sixty feet in five years. As the bamboo “wood” hardens as it matures, millions of tiny holes form in the tissue, and it is these tiny holes that make this bamboo so great for charcoal. It is almost 25% more porous than standard wood charcoal.

This pure plant wax is harvested from the stems of the desert Candelilla shrub. The plant parts are boiled in water and the wax is skimmed off the top and bottled before coating the nylon floss.
